Farmland First, Formal Township Status Only Since 1961
The area that became Holt was first purchased for farming in 1837 by Frederick Luther and John Norris, developed steadily as an agricultural community called Delhi Center, and was renamed Holt in 1860 due to postal confusion with another Delhi. Delhi Charter Township wasn't formally organized until September 18, 1961, following years of study over incorporation options.
A 2000s Building Boom Layered Onto Older Farm-Era Homes
Delhi Township recorded a 15 percent population increase between 2000 and 2010, driving new housing subdivisions and school construction (including a Holt High School expansion built 2000-2003) onto land that had been farmed for over 150 years.
